About the Doctor

Hello, I am Dr. Debra Volenec, veterinarian and founder for Angels At The End.  I was fortunate enough to grow up in a home where my father was a veterinarian, back in the days where there were no emergency hospitals, so nights and weekends were often spent helping him care for sick pets.  I knew from a young age that my father had passed on his love of veterinary medicine to me.  I graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Florida in 1988 and came to Volusia County with my husband, who is not a veterinarian but warmly welcomes the parade of animals that seem to follow me home.  Our two daughters have also helped raise guide dogs along with many rescues and fosters.  Over the years I helped clients and friends say goodbye to their pets--the family we choose for ourselves--and came to believe that they deserve a chance to be at home for their last moments if their owners wish.  If your pet is nearing the end of their time with you, please discuss their care with your regular veterinarian.  Angels At The End is there for you and your pet should you decide that home euthanasia is an option you would like to consider.

Since 2006 and after eighteen years in traditional practice, I now care for pets through Angels At The End and relief veterinary medicine in other areas of Central and North Florida.   I am a proud member of the following organizations:

  • American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)
  • Florida Veterinary Medical Association (FVMA)
  • Alaska State Veterinary Medical Association (AKVMA) - yes, I am licensed to practice veterinary medicine both in the Sunshine State and The Land of the Midnight Sun!
  • International Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (IVECCS).
  • American Association of Housecall Practitioners (AAHV)
  • Veterinary Information Network (VIN) - an online forum of 45,000 veterinarians worldwide!
  • In Home Pet Euthanasia - a national registry of other veterinarians who share a dedication to helping pet owners with home euthanasia
  • Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement (APLB)

Below is a picture of my father, fondly known to his clients as Dr. S., taken sometime in the 1990's and obviously loving every minute of his profession.   Thanks, Dad
